    4:54 You say about ABBE Value 32 "so you might" get some color fringing out at the end if you are a very very good observer but at 5:48 you say ABBE value of 32 is "Very Very Poor optics." (This is similar to what they told me at my eye doctor as well) which caused me to buy 1.67 lenses only to find out they are definitely Not better than Polycarbonate in my experience. I ended up having to reorder more lenses and keep the other ones as a backup. Please can you tell me why there is this confusing narrative making Polycarbonate sound bad and 1.67 sound just possibly not as good as great?

    Thank you so much, Dr. Nelson. This is very helpful. It's challenging to find direction concerning quality readers. I have contacts and due to my age (57) I need a reader in low-light situations. I also wear them while reading (which is a lot). Do you have a recommendation for those of us who want to invest in a quality pair of readers?

    Hello Dr Nelson, what happens if a patient needs two different power for reading glasses? For example, one eye +2.00 the other +2.50. My optometrist didn’t test each eye independently for reading glasses. He just got me to read from a card with both eyes open. How would you write the prescription in the ADD portion, +2.00 for both eyes or +2.50 for both?

  • @ckp2ator389

    You mentioned monofocal would be the best selection if one has a pre-existing eye condition. Would higher risk of developing an eye condition also be a good reason for selecting monofocal? For example, my Dr said I have an enlarged optic nerve in one eye so am at a risk for glaucoma, that they'd want to keep an eye on. Would getting glaucoma and having say multi-focal or EDOF lens already implanted compromise your vision quality more than if you had had monofocal lenses implanted?

    I have some on order and I have worn ray bans for over 30 years. I tried them on in the store next to actual ray bans and they were very similar in size. I want to wear as prescriptions but on the ray ban website it said my prescription isn’t supported. I do have bad eyesight but I always get high index lenses and they are quite thin. It is my understanding that maybe Lencrafters has the same restriction. Do you see any reason why a third party would not fit these?

    I literally had my 2nd eye cataract surgery today. The drops numb your eye and it becomes quite blurry and numb.The anaesthetic block was done with me lying down. I was asked to look up or sideways and given that the eye was already a bit numb and blurry i couldnt see any instruments coming at me. There was pressure from the instrument used to create the block. It lasted 5 seconds and nothing to worry about. The actual op was done in a small operating theatre. I lay face up with my head in a small headrest.. The surgeon was behind me. He put a lightweight airy cloth over my face. It was not claustrophobic because it wasn't tight fitting and slightly transluscent. My good eye was covered and I could see the cloth and some vague shadows and lights beyond.With the operated on eye, I couldn't see anything. I could sense the surgeon working on my eye but it definitely was not sore at all. They washed the op eye with water now and again so i sensed that on my face. It took maybe 15 mins. He put a small shield on my eye with an eye pad, taped with papery tape. I felt a little woozy for about 20 mins but it was nothing. My first eye has now healed up brilliantly and as well as distance, my reading vision has really improved too. I am so looking forward to seeing how this second eye has improved. I would recommend this surgery and it definitely wasn't sore or even nerve wrecking at all.

I'm looking for the balance between great optics , great field of view that will work in a no drill semi rimless frame . Trivex , Cr39 or 1.60 ? I will be adding a scratch, oil , moister , AR coating . Any bad effects adding to any of these choices ? Thank you, great videos!

    I really wish I researched before getting glasses. I'm 50 and never wore any and now I'm in progressive lenses. The doctor and the one that does the fitting just gave me one option and said this is what we use ourselves and its the best. They gave me Varilux X in polycarbonate lenses. Crizal Sapphire HR and AR on the backside. I have a 1.0 astigmatism in my right eye and 2.0 in my left . - 0.75 for both at distance and +1.75 for both add for reading. I'm looking for the absolute best optical quality over shatter or break strength. My gut told me to go with zeiss when I first knew I would need glasses. After researching, I think I was right. Trivex seems to be a much better option than polycarbonate. Any thoughts on what would be best for me? Thanks

    • @GoodOptometryMorning
      @GoodOptometryMorning 10 дней назад

      I think the option your eye doc suggested is actually pretty good. I think it checks all the boxes. Varilux X is Essilors best progressive, you got the best coatings. Polycarb is impact resistant. you are correct that the only change you could have made would be getting Trivex vs polycarb but I don't know if Varilux X comes in Trivex. I think you have a great lens.

    I am in my 70s and had both eyes done this month. They used the Alcon Clareon standard lenses, and after 2 weeks, I no longer need my glasses at 14" (where I asked them to set for computer work). Should get new progressives in 4 more weeks since I have heavy duty astigmatism in both eyes, and of course, the distance is blurry which I expected.. In fact the day after surgery, my vision was pretty good. The killer is that Insurance and Medicare part B, only cover the standard lenses, which in this day and age is absurd! The way I understood it was that they wouldn't even apply what they covered against premium or Toric lenses which were about $5500 per eye. With the standard lenses, I am out of pocket about 1k USD for the cataract surgery, surgery ctr, and anesthesiologist. I actually miss wearing glasses since I have worn them for more than 50 years.

      @@GoodOptometryMorning Absolutely! I think I spent 2 hrs while they dilated my pupils..then another hour getting prepped and put under light anesthesia (and waiting my turn..LOL). The operation itself took about 15 minutes (manual..no laser). Then maybe another 15 minutes waiting for the anesthesia to wear off; and then they led me out to a waiting taxi. Just like a well oiled machine!🙂 I was dreading my upcoming DMV renewal, but now I can't wait for their eye test. (tested 20/20 a few days after the operation, without glasses.) The clarity and sharpness of colors is back to being amazing.

      I'm scheduled for the same as you got: Clareon standard with focal distance aiming for intermediate. My Dr is going to set one eye for -2 and the other for -3 to get this effect. Do you know if your Dr did the same sort of setting? When you say your distance is blurry, when does it start getting blurry? Last night I was watching TV from 15' away and was wondering if I'd be able to read the closed captions with my IOLs set for intermediate. I'm going to follow up with my Dr with this specific question but wondered about your experience. The progressive glasses that you are going to get, do you expect to be using them for driving only, so you can see distance out of the top part, then it graduates to less power further down?

      @@jeffme6891 Did you find the colors true to what you expect or did they have a cool tint similar to under fluorescent lighting? I noticed that Clareon offers yellow-tinted or blue light filtering lenses as opposed to clear tint for those who might want it.
